As I spoke with bloggers at the Type A Mom Conference, one thing became apparent. Most blog about what they love.
That started me thinking about this site.
What are my goals and intentions for this blog? And am I loving what I write?
I don’t want to be misunderstood as I write this. I like sharing grocery store deals and freebies with you. Absolutely like it- and sometimes I even love it. Bargain shopping is a lost art in our society, and I like to help bring it back by providing this information. I enjoy couponing and getting deals, and I do it a lot myself.
But that’s not the heart of this site and what I set out to share here.
I set about to help change the money mindset and share of a lifestyle not (usually) controlled by money. A lifestyle where money is put in its proper place, a place where there’s financial freedom and balance. While I love sharing coupon match-ups, and definitely think that can be part of good stewardship of finances, it’s not the crux of it all. And while providing store deals is hopefully very useful, it doesn’t allow me much opportunity to share me and and the frugal journey my family has set out upon.
Let’s face it- store coupon match-ups are… sterile. I want to share more and be spurred on in my blogging by a passion of what I share. Store deals are great, but it’s not what (usually) gets my blood pumping.
If you’ve been reading my blog for any amount of time, do you feel like you know me? Probably not. There’s not much me in the pages of this site. But I want the community we’re building here to feel like we’re friends sitting down for a real heart-to-heart about our lives and our take on finances.
Am I going to stop sharing store deals? Hopefully not. But can I find the time and energy to keep up with the store deals as I am now and share more of me? Probably not.
How will my blog change? I’m not sure. I’m still trying to figure it out.
But I can promise you this. Whatever my decision about this site’s content, it’s a decision borne out of a love for you, my readers, and a desire to embark on our frugal journeys together.

Sounds good to me! I look forward to learning a little bit more about you, especially because of our mutual c-ville connection!
I struggle with this too. I started my blog in March , but it has a lot of traffic already. My dilemma is..all coupon blogs seem the same to me…mine included..the same posts/coupon matches on every blog it seems. What is even worse..you do all the matchups and other bloggers “steal” your work with no credit/linkback given! I just think that is sooo rude! I must admit I am tired of reading the same thing over and over. So what to do? I am still debating the same things you are..
I love reading your blog for the deals. I will say when I first started reading it you had a spiritual/religous section from what I remember. I think you would post something on Sunday. Well anyway as you think about your blog and continue to grow with it I thought that was a nice touch and looked forward to reading it. Keep up the good work.
Dana,
I really admire your honesty and humility in regards to the direction of your blog. I enjoy your blog not just for the deals, but because I get to see a glimpse of the unique ways you live a frugal lifestyle which range from grocery deals and coupons to how you save money on photos and Christmas cards, setting a monthly budget, saving toward purchasing a used car, etc.
From the posts that you write about yourself and the pictures you have included, as well as the “about me” page of your blog, I do feel like I know you. You put Christ at the center of your life; you love your husband and children; you are passionate about living frugally and being a good steward of the resources you have been given. And like the rest of us moms, you consider yourself a “regular mom” who’s not perfect and is a work in progress.
I look forward to keeping up with your blog and seeing any changes implented in the future.
I really see you pouring yourself into this blog, and it is a blessing to those of us who read it! Keep up the great work!

Dana,
Wow – you hit the nail on the head! I just started blogging last month and I’m working really hard to not get lost in all the coupon listing and deal summarizing. One thing that I’ve tried to do is write in the same silly way that I like to talk, use smiley faces and winks… be my normal goofy self. I do realize that it could drive some people away, but I try not to let that bother me. I consider myself a fun gal and want my posts to come across that way too. One thing I’ve considered is picking a day of the week when posts are usually pretty light (Tues or Fri) to do a “random thoughts” type post. Something on my mind that week that I think might pertain to other people’s lives.
Anyway, good luck. I look forward to seeing how your blog may change! And by the way, I LOVE your blog :)

Go for it :)
Thank you all for your encouragement and suggestions. It means so much to me. And I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who struggles with this blogging issue!
I’m still not sure what changes need to happen, but I’m working on it. Hope to make this a better a site for all of us!
