I had the pleasure of attending the Type A Mom Conference this weekend in Asheville, North Carolina. Though I missed Ryan and the kids horribly, I had a wonderful time. It was such a whirlwind of learning and meeting that I’m still trying to process and remember it all!
Want to know something tragic? I didn’t take a single picture this weekend to share with you. I know- what kinda blogger am I?!
Thankfully, Gina of Moneywise Moms took a picture of the two of us that she’s allowing me to share with you.
I was honored to act as a representative for Busy Breathers this weekend. They sponsored my trip and I had the privilege of sharing their product- the Busy Breather- with the other moms at the conference.
I learned so much this weekend about everything from technical web stuff to branding to working with companies to writing better content- and more! The speakers at the Type A Mom conference were fabulous. I got to learn from Jessica Smith, Alli Worthington, Katja Presnal, Renee Ross, David Griner, Janice Croze, and others. While some of the things I learned are “behind the scenes”, I hope you’ll begin to see some positive changes here as I apply what I learned. Cutest Kid Ever live-blogged through ten of the sessions, so if you’re hoping for some more details of what I learned, check out her posts.
Throughout the weekend , a few major recurring themes seemed to emerge as speakers shared and questions were asked. So, to recap the weekend’s content briefly, here you go:
1. It’s often better to have people quietly whisper your name than shout it.
2. There’s room for all Mom Bloggers to be successful, but it won’t happen if we attack one another. So celebrate the success of other mom bloggers because it helps out the whole community.
3. Build your product, then promote it. 5 Minutes for Mom spent two years developing their site before they began to deliberately promote.
4. This is just the beginning for Mom Bloggers. Our blogs are just our launch pads. Begin to think, “What’s next?”
And my favorite quote of the weekend, in response to the upcoming FTC disclosure regulations on blogs:
“If you live ethically, you’ll blog ethically.” -Nirasha
Exactly. No need to get our panties tied in knots after all.
The real highlight of the weekend though was the opportunity to meet some wonderful ladies in “real life” . (You’ll miss out if you don’t click on those links to their blogs!) What a great time I had getting to know them. And I’m still kicking myself for not getting pictures with them.

Wonderful job boiling down such a comprehensive event into a few key lessons, Dana.
No. 3 is especially important these days. I feel like so much of the frustration between bloggers and brands is the fact that the most successful bloggers really spent years in the trenches, making great content and great connections. Lots of folks (whether they’re on the brand or blogger side) expect fame and profit to appear overnight, which can lead to lots of disappointment.
Great connecting with you, and I look forward to seeing “what’s next” for you, too!

Great, humorous recap of the conference! It was so fun chatting with you & swapping blog tips!
Loved meeting you! What a great time we all shared!
