Did you know that you can find out many Black Friday deals before the ads are actually available in newspapers and stores?  Great for those of us who like to plan in advance!  Hot Coupon World has the scoop here.  The site’s forums are divided up by different stores.  There’s not a whole lot of information on there yet, but in the next couple of weeks, more will slowly become available.  You can find some information on a handfull of stores like Walgreens, Rite Aid, Office Max, and Half Priced Books.

This will become a handy resource as your holiday shopping gets underway!

Speaking of Black Friday, how many of you actually go shopping on this day?

We tend to do a lot of our online shopping each Black Friday as online stores have some awesome deals then too.  Sometimes I muster up the courage to fight the crowds later in the day when things aren’t quite so crazy.

Last year was actually the first time I had ever been shopping on Black Friday. My mom and I hit up the deals much later that night (starting at 7pm) and it was great. I got two pairs of jeans from Old Navy for $24! A lot of the merchandise had been picked over, but the deals were still really good… and I didn’t have to get up at 4am to snag them!

I never ever shop on Black Friday, because I know I’d get pulled into buying things just because they’re such great deals. But mostly I don’t because I don’t think Christmas should be about “the latest thing people are buying for gifts.” When I was growing up, we made most of the gifts we gave (Mom was very talented, and the kids gradually learned to help). Of course the kids got some toys and books, but many of our presents were homemade. For me now, the real fun is planning clever and interesting things to make, and the internet is a great source of ideas. Also, I have a quick temper when I’m stressed, and I’d probably end up in jail after fighting some other shopper for the last best deal! Kate

Growing up my two sisters, my three cousins, my step mother and my aunt and I would brave the crowds (and then, stores weren’t open at 4am – sometimes “early” was 7 or 8am) and we would shop for Christmas presents for us kids – by that time we were all wanting clothes and in an effort to make sure we got something we wanted, AND that it fit, we’d hit a few shops try on things and then my aunt and step mom would choose what they wanted to get us, but not before sending us on other errands. It was something we still talk about today as being a good time, but like you, Dana, I would opt for getting on the internet and shop from the comfort of my own home and pjs! Besides, it’s like me getting a present when the UPS man brings me all these packages from things I have ordered!

I tried shopping on Black Friday last year for the first time in my life. Let me just say, I will NEVER do that again! It was a fiasco with long lines. Yes, there were some good deals but it was not worth the stress. I also found out that you could get many of the Walmart Black Friday deals online…comfort of home and no lines!

I actually love to go shopping on Black Friday!! I stay away though from the big stores like Best Buy and walmart though. The children’s place the past couple of yrs does an extra 20% off your entire purchase, and you can combine that with one of their coupons! I usually buy all my winter clothes for my boys that morning along with Christmas presents. Tried toysrus one yr, will not go back. Love the small clothes shops in the mall though. Our mall gives out Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and its become a tradition with my sister-in-law. There’s just an excitement that I love!

Renae- Exactly! Walmart and other stores offer the same prices online, so I don’t feel any incentive to wake up so early.

Laura B- I agree, there is something kind of exciting about Black Friday shopping. That’s why I’ll venture out some years later in the day to I can still catch a bit of it. It is fun to be out with lots of other shoppers- in moderation, looking at all the mall Christmas decorations, etc.

This year we’ll be in Canada for their Boxing Day- the day after Christmas. It’s supposed to be just like our Black Friday, so I’m excited to see how it compares!
