If you’ve been around this site for any amount of time, you know that I am all about saving money and making the money I do spend count.  This is my rule when it comes to baby items too.

With two children, I’m no stranger to strollers and car seats.  Until recently, we’ve had four different strollers serving different times and purposes, one infant car seat, and three convertible car seats.  Like I said, I’ve had some experience with baby gear.

Nearly everything we’ve owned has been pretty mid-priced and supposedly mid-quality.  But my feelings on all these pieces have been pretty negative.  All the car seats and strollers have been basically functional, but often frustrating to use.  (Not to mention the safety of some just didn’t seem quite right.)  Just recently, I had decided that all car seats and strollers, regardless of price, must be the same- pretty dreadful.  Something to endure while your children are young- and pray that it holds up that long!

So, needless to say, I was skeptical about the Britax Chaperone baby carrier and strollerthat arrived on my porch from Britax last week.  I was hopeful that these items would work better, but definitely doubted.

britax red mill chaperone baby carrierRight from the start, I could see the Britax line was different than the other strollers and car seats we have owned.  Both are obviously plusher and made of easier to clean materials (without the washing machine even!) than our past items.  And each has a larger than usual canopy that blocks UV rays.

The car seat’s added safety features quickly caught my eye.  The Chaperone baby carrier has “true side impact protection”, like the head restraint that’s lined in EPS foam.  The seat also has an anti-rebound bar that I’ve never seen in another car seat.  This bar helps protect against rotational forces in rear and front-end collisions.  Other than all the added safety features(and there are loads!), the seat has a handy no-rethread harness adjuster.  For this, my husband will be forever thankful.  (If you’ve ever had a car seat that requires rethreading, you know what I mean!)  Overall, this car seat is just plain higher quality, in my opinion.  Something else of note- my five month old baby never used to sleep in the car.  And it was absurd how much he disliked his former infant car seat.  But for the past week, every time he goes riding in the Britax Chaperone infant carrier, he’s asleep within minutes.  While I definitely can’t guarantee this will be the case for every baby, this carrier has worked like a charm for Jack!

britax red mill chaperone strollerThe Chaperone stroller is of very similar quality, withboth the plush and easy-to-clean features.  While it adapts to fit an infant car seat (Britax and other major brands) for young babies, my 2-year old daughter has had the luxury of riding in this stroller.  She loves it and seems much more comfortablethan before during our outings.  Plus, there’s plenty of under-the-seat storage, and the stroller is incrediblyeasy to steer.  My favorite feature- you can fold this stroller up with just one hand.  It’s a super easy folding system that I appreciate when I havemy hands full with children and diaper bags.

The Britax Chaperone line is a bit pricier than the car seats/strollers that I’m used to.  But is the added cost worth it?  In my opinion, absolutely.  I’m sold.  The top-of-the-line safety featuresand high quality make them worth the extra money.  And, while I haven’t personally used the products for too long, I have a feeling these would hold up through the use of multiple children, giving you extra bang for your buck.  (Doesn’t mean we’ll be putting that to the test though…)

Still wishing you could lower the cost of the Britax?  You can!  Now through December 31st, the company is offering a $100 rebate when you purchase both the Chaperone stroller and baby carrier.  Click here for more details and the rebate form.

Want to learn more about the Britax Chaperone line?  You can check out a video here that explains all the features.

I like the extra side impact protection. With #2 on the way I am concerned that niether of my children will be seated in the safest spot in the middle of the back seat. Although I am completely happy with the carseats I have I am considering upgrading to seats with side impact protection.

My favorite feature is the “Convenient Harness Holders keep harness straps out of the way while placing child in the car seat”. SOO necessary in keeping both parent and child sane when there is so much in and out of the car seat these days!

I also love that it has the HUGS Harness. I could keep going on the things that I love!

I love the fact that this seat is good up to 65 lbs! We just discovered that the harness for our current car seat can only be used up to 40 lbs and then you have to switch to using the car seat belt. In my opinion, the seat belt is just too easy to move out of the correct/safe position making it less safe and reliable than a harness system.

There is nothing more frustrating with a carseat than having to rethread the harness straps- especially when you have other kids whining and it has taken you twice as long to rethread the straps than you thought it would. The fact that the ADVOCATE has front harness adjustments, a five point harness and a no re-thread feature is well worth it. What a TIME SAVING feature!

The side impact protection is very exciting (and the prospect of only have to buy one convertible car seat is too – I’m the proud mother of 9 month old twin girls)

what an awesome seat! as the mom of a 16 month old (still rear facing), I love that this seat doesn’t require rethreading of the harnesses when they’re adjusted to a new height. and the 65lb weight limit means we can use this seat for a long time! (my 8 year old doesn’t even weigh that yet!)

I am most excited about the harness adjustment features. I’m a new Mom, and determining the appropriate snugness of my son’s harness is something I struggle with daily. My husband always thinks it’s too snug, and I always think it is too loose. Having a carseat that helps us decide that? Priceless!

The ‘Built in lockoffs’ seems to be the best new feature. In the carseat my other child has, its easy for her to move to the side and have the strap off one shoulder and against her neck. If she can’t move either side, there will be less squirming and crying! that’d be great!!

i love the built in lock offs. if you’ve ever used a car seat that has a tendancy to slide, even if you’ve pulled all restraints extremely tight, than this sounds so nice!

My older child has Britax carseats and we love them. There is a DISTINCT difference in quality in the Britax ones and the infant seat that we have for our second child. Getting ready to buy new seat for our little one. Our Britax does not have the anti-rebound bar. So, definitely interested in that.

I would be happiest that it holds a child up to 65 lb and that the harness is adjustable without having to re-thread it. Re-threading harnesses is a pain.

My youngest DD is currently in a “bucket” car seat and really needs to move up to a convertible rear facing like this Britax Advocate. Thanks for the chance to win!

I love the 65 pound weight limit! It helps get way more use out of the car seat and helps to save money!!

I like that the ’seated shoulder height’ goes up to 16 inches…it is nice to see the weight up to 65 lbs,…I’m guessing my children will out grow it in height before weight. I like keeping my children in a 5 pt harness as long as possible.

I like the infant body pillow. My 11 month old daughter is really small, and she still uses one of the newborn inserts in her infant carseat.

I love that it holds up to 65lbs!!A 5 pt. harness at that weight amazes me.

I like the idea of No Re-thread Harness Adjustment. It’s such a hassle to thread my current carseat everytime my little man hits a growth point. (fingers crossed we win this one before he’s ready for a forward facing seat)

I like the click safe feature… it ensures that people maybe not as familiar with every day buckling in (grandma, , relatives, etc) know exactly how tight the harness should be!

we are looking for a convertible car seat for my 14 months old. So far, I think Britax is the best. This advocate CS seems to have everything height, weight, side impact protection, harness adjuster and style. It will be great if I win this. Have a great holiday.

I have heard for months – Britax is the best. I am ready to move my daughter to a regular car seat from her infant one…this car seat has the best features for safety and comfort.

My friend has one of these carseats. I love the fact that they hold a child up to 65 lbs. I also really like they have a pad that goes between the child and the buckle so you do not pinch there legs when straping them in. They are real easy to use also.
