There are 50 days until Christmas. And now is the time to get organized for this year’s holiday baking.
If you plan to do holiday baking this year, I suggest making your list of planned cookies, cakes, candies, and bars- as well as your list of needed ingredients- as soon as this week. You see, even now we’re beginning to see stores dropping prices on baking supplies. (For example, Harris Teeter has 5 lb bags of flour and sugar for 99 cents each this week.) If you figure out what you’ll need now, you’ll have the next several weeks leading up to your baking to look for the best deals and the coupons that you might need for these purchases. The advance planning will also save you the extra cost of running out to the store at the last moment to pick up your final ingredients!
So what’s on your holiday baking list this year?
Here’s my planned baking:
Chocolate peppermint cookies
Soft molasses cookies
Coconut-butterscotch fudge cookies
Chocolate chip cookies
Cranberry white chocolate cookies
Fudge
Gingerbread cookies
Cranberry upside down cake
Pumkpin cake with cream cheese frosting
Snowball Cake
So by knowing what I have in my stockpile already and without even looking at the recipes, I know I need to be looking for sales and coupons for flour, sugar, candy canes, cocoa powder, fresh cranberries, cream cheese, and coconut (just to name a few of the needed ingredients) in the coming weeks. I’ll be sure to let you know how my Christmas baking is coming along in the weeks to come!

Mmm. Can you share the recipes for any of the cookies you are planning to bake? They sound wonderful!
Thanks for this tip! I was going to completely ignore the HT sale because we’re good on flour and sugar and rarely go through them… but I completely forgot about holiday baking!
These sound great. I’m going to start working on my Christmas baking list just as soon as I get my head wrapped around Thanksgiving. I have been obsessed with molasses cookies lately and would love if you could share the link.

Lucky- I will definitely be sharing the molasses cookies recipe. A friend passed the recipe along to me last year and these cookies are PERFECT. They turn out so soft every time. I’ll share the recipe sometime soon!
