Help for Haiti

by Dana @ Mrs. Moneysaver on January 15, 2010

Yesterday I shared with you some thoughts on the crisis and need in Haiti.  My husband and I sat in the comfort of our home last night, discussing what we could do.  Our ideas seemed… small.

Then Crystal issued a call to action.  A call for both bloggers and readers alike to help Haiti.

Crystal is asking for those with a blog to write a post sharing how they are helping the people of Haiti.  Giving, praying, spreading the word- getting creative for the cause.

Then you can leave the link to your blog post on Crystal’s linkup.  For every person who blogs about how they are helping Haiti and leaves a link on her site by January 21st, Crystal and her husband will donate $10 to Compassion International’s efforts in Haiti.

She’s also inviting those who don’t blog to leave a comment or email her with details of what you’re doing to help Haiti.  For each person who emails or comments, Crystal will be giving 30 cents to Numana to provide one meal to a Haitian in need.

Crystal has invited bloggers to make a similar commitment while hosting linkups.

My husband and I have been blessed beyond measure.  We have everything we need.   We knew that we could and should give to Haiti in this time.  So we’re joining Crystal in this challenge.

If you have a blog, I’m asking that you write a “Help for Haiti” post sharing what you’re doing to help Haiti. Then leave a direct link to your post below.  For each person who links up below or leaves a comment sharing what they are doing to help Haiti by January 21st, my husband and I have committed to give $5, up to $350, to Compassion’s relief fund.

(Our family has been a Compassion child sponsor in Haiti for several years, and we trust the organization to use our money wisely.  They also have a four-star rating on Charity Navigator.)

While I doubt any one of us has the resources to feed, clothe, and house all the Haitians in need at this time, every little bit we can give (prayer or physical resources) individually adds up when we all join together in support of the people of Haiti.

If you’re looking to give monetarily, here are some recommended funds:

World Vision

Compassion

Habitat for Humanity International

Hope for Haiti

Samaritan’s Purse

Hope Builders (select Haiti from drop down menu options)

Please also take some time to visit the blogs listed below to learn what others are doing to help Haiti.

Thank you for joining me in Help for Haiti!
