12 Days of Valentine’s Day: Pediped

by Dana @ Mrs. Moneysaver on February 5, 2010

Welcome to Day 8 of the 12 Days of Valentine’s Day, where I’m sharing some fun and affordable Valentine’s Day gifts, plus giving you a chance to win these products yourself! Be sure to check back each day for a new gift idea and giveaway.

How cute are those shoes!  Chocolate brown and pink is one of my favorite color combinations, especially for little girls’ clothes.  And seeing as the shoes are speckled with hearts, they would make such a cute Valentine’s Day gift.  These shoes are the “Ashley” style from Pediped.

As I’ve shared before, I’m a big fan of second-hand shoes.  But judging from the comments and emails I received the last time I told you guys that, it’s clear many of you steer clear of second-hand footwear!  Regardless, whether bought at yard sales or Nordstroms, I think we can all agree that quality shoes are important, especially for kids’ developing feet and motor skills.

If you aren’t familiar with Pediped, this is one of those brands that I’m on the hunt for when I shop second-hand shoes.  Pedipeds are just high-quality shoes, in my opinion, made to be the “next best thing to bare feet”.  This particular pair is a Pediped Original, meaning that the shoes are ideal for young feet, 0-24 months.

After reading the Pediped Foot Health webpage, I learned that kids’ feet are typically still developing for the first 18 months, meaning that proper footwear in those months is crucial.  These Pedipeds offer soft leather, combined with cushiony soles and ankles, that make them a comfortable, healthy shoe for kids.

So if your little girl is in need of new shoes, you may want to consider covering two bases this February 14th- a gift and new shoes!  The Ashleys are a super-cute, holiday-perfect option.  Pedipeds are sold online and at retail stores across the country.

Pediped also wants to give one reader a pair of Ashley Pediped shoes.  You have three ways you can enter, and you can pick as many entries (up to three) as you would like.  Make sure you leave a separate comment for each entry. If you are reading this post from an email, you must click over to the Mrs. Moneysaver site to leave your comments.

1. Visit Pediped’s “Did You Know” page and then share one interesting fact you read.

2. Subscribe to this blog, and leave me a comment letting me know you’ve done so. Click here to subscribe by email or feed reader or see the right sidebar to sign up. You must remain a subscriber for the duration of this giveaway. If you’re already a subscriber, leave a comment letting me know.

3.  Become a fan of Mrs. Moneysaver on Facebook and leave a comment on the Facebook page with a site suggestion or just to say hello!  Then come back here and let me know you did this.

Remember, please leave a separate comment for each entry, and enter only in the ways listed above. I reserve the right to delete comments not adhering to the above entry guidelines.

You can enter anytime now through Sunday, February 14thst at 8PM EDT. One winner will be selected at random. I will contact the winner by email shortly after the giveaway ends, and the winner will have 48 hours to respond. If the winner does not respond within that time frame, a new winner will be selected.

Thanks for entering!

They say you shouldn’t let your child wear hand-me-down shoes! Almost all of my daughter’s shoes are hand-me-downs! Oh well. :)

I learned that the sole of the shoe should be smooth so it doesn’t catch the floor – possibly causing the child to trip & fall.

We are MAJOR wearers or Pedipeds in our household! I have other shoe brands but our Pedipeds are the ones that my 20 month old daughter prefers!

Great giveaway!

The bones in a baby’s foot are composed of cartilage, the same flexible substance you find in your ears and nose.

Shoes that are too “sticky” on the bottom can actually change a child’s stride when walking since they have to lift their feet to move. Hmmm, that’s interesting.

This page was very informative. My daughter often kicks her shoes off as soon as we get in the door. I think it is because they are not as flexible as she would like them to be. It can be hard to resist those flashy light up “kicks” they see in the store, but do they offer the best comfort for a developing foot. I will use the guidelines to help me select her next pair more carefully.

I need to start checking my kids shoe size more often! We usually go about 6 months between visits to the shoe store, 3-4 months probably is a better suggestion. Thanks for sharing all of the info!

I didn’t even think about the fact that you shouldn’t use shoes as hand me downs because the shoe molds to the specific person wearing it! Something to think about!

I didn’t know children need new shoes every 3 to 4 months…my LO was born early and we’re in the lower percentiles, so she isn’t growing at a fast enough rate to need new shoes that often yet!

I learned that wearing hand me downs can affect the shape of your child’s foot because shoes mold to the foot.

hand-me down shoes aren’t good for kids because they are molded to the previous wearer’s foot.

I think it is interesting that I should look for shoes with a rounded toe box that give plenty of room for little toes to move and wiggle. Good tip.

I thought it was interesting to find out that a babys foot begins as just cartilage that later hardens to form the 26 bones in your feet… didn’t remember that from Biology (if we were taught it to begin with).

A shoe that is too rigid or too tight can change the shape of the child’s foot. I think I better hurry and get new shoes for my daughter – her’s are getting too tight!
I just have to say that these shoes are so adorable! My daughter would love them! She loves shoes and puts on any shoes she can (mom’s and dad’s, other kids, etc.).
