12 Days of Valentine’s Day: Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey

by Dana on February 2, 2010

Welcome to Day #5 of the 12 Days of Valentine’s Day, where I’m sharing some fun and affordable Valentine’s Day gifts, plus giving you a chance to win these products yourself! Be sure to check back each day for a new gift idea and giveaway.

So let’s say you have someone on your Valentine’s Day gift list that wants to start coupon shopping but doesn’t quite know where to begin.  Or maybe you know of someone who really should be couponing but isn’t.  (Oh come on, you know the ones I’m talking about!) You may want to consider picking up a copy of Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey for a Valentine’s Day gift that will keep on giving.

Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey is authored by the ladies behind The Krazy Coupon Lady, Joanie Demer and Heather Wheeler.  As the book’s tagline says, by learning the strategies shared in the book, you can “save big money and make the grocery aisle your catwalk”.  Okay, I admit it.  Before I received my review copy of Pick Another Checkout Lane, I was skeptical, even as an avid couponer myself.  A nearly 250 page book on couponing?  But after a few chapters, I was hooked on this great resource.

First of all, the book is fun.  The authors have really taken a refreshing approach to couponing.  (Their idea that young male cashiers are generally the best at accomodating coupon use is funny, yet so true!)  Plus, the book just has a nice design, both in its format and graphics.  Very up-to-date, which is important, in my opinion, if you’re going to gift it.  The authors walk you through couponing very logically, from where to find coupons and when to use them, stockpiling, coupon fraud, and more.  While I don’t quite see eye to eye with the authors on their approval of coupon clipping services, I do very much appreciate their dedication to ethical couponing throughout the book as well.  If someone is going to learn couponing, it’s important they learn the right way, and it’s nice to see Pick Another Checkout Lane promoting the right use of coupons.  Bottom line: The book is a great guide for those wanting to jump into the world of coupons.

While I do think you can find the book’s information for free on blogs, money-saving sites like mine can often seem overwhelming to someone just starting out.  A single book can seem like a much more manageable and focused approach to coupons than blogs might at first.  And at just $12 (and $3 shipping), it’s a very reasonable price to pay for a resource that, if used properly, will have far greater returns.

The authors of Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey want to give one Mrs. Moneysaver reader a copy of their book for free.  You have three ways you can enter, and you can pick as many entries (up to three) as you would like.  Make sure you leave a separate comment for each entry. If you are reading this post from an email, you must click over to the Mrs. Moneysaver site to leave your comments.

1. Share a little something about how coupons have helped your family.

2. Subscribe to this blog, and leave me a comment letting me know you’ve done so. Click here to subscribe by email or feed reader or see the right sidebar to sign up. You must remain a subscriber for the duration of this giveaway. If you’re already a subscriber, leave a comment letting me know.

3.  Become a fan of Mrs. Moneysaver on Facebook and leave a comment on the Facebook page with a site suggestion or just to say hello!  Then come back here and let me know you did this.

Remember, please leave a separate comment for each entry, and enter only in the ways listed above. I reserve the right to delete comments not adhering to the above entry guidelines.

You can enter anytime now through Sunday, February 14thst at 8PM EDT. One winner will be selected at random. I will contact the winner by email shortly after the giveaway ends, and the winner will have 48 hours to respond. If the winner does not respond within that time frame, a new winner will be selected.

Thanks for entering!

Coupons has helped us to save money for sure! We often do not have to much, if anything, for toiletry items! I would love to do better with our food bill though!

Coupons have helped my family simply because saving .50 at time really adds up! As I’ve become more familiar with coupons, I’ve gotten better at spotting the really good deals and the not so good ones (thanks to sites like yours!).

Oh my goodness, coupons have helped us tremendously in the last 6 months since I actively started cutting, collecting and redeeming. We now have a 6-8 month stockpile of toilet paper, and bunches of toiletries too. It’s amazing!

Couponing has really helped our family while my husband is a full time student. It’s been a way that God has helped to provide during these lean times. I’d love to learn more about it with the book! Thanks!

We have been able to keep our grocery bill at 100-125 a week for our family of 6! That is great for us-we save a lot using the coupons and matching them with sales!

Couponing has helped my family make ends meet. With no means of income (due to an auto accident… long story!) we are living on next to nothing, yet we don’t feel the blow quite as badly due to the incredible savings with coupons! How did I ever pay full price at the grocery store with no thought for what anything cost? I am a changed gal!

Couponing has helped halve our weekly food budget so we can pay off our home renovations faster!

Your blog is something I look forward to reading and I check in every day!! I love getting great deals, especially freebies. It’s a little tougher to get around to multiple stores with 2 little ones, but I like being able to donate food to those who aren’t are fortunate as my family.

Because of using coupons, I spend almost nothing on drug store items any more… in fact, I get so much free stuff that I have twice yearly flea markets and sell all the free stuff I’ve acquired… I made about a $700 profit from that last year! Some nice vacation money for my family!!!
