I know diapers. Since my first baby was born nearly 3 years ago, with #2 born last June, I estimate that we’ve gone through just over 8,600 diapers.
That’s a lot of diapers.
Somewhere between diaper #1 and diaper #8635, I’ve learned which work, and which don’t. Which diapers are a good value, and which are complete rip-offs.

So when Rite Aid recently launched their private label diapers and training pants line called Tugaboos, I was interested, and my excitement grew when Rite Aid sent me a coupon to try Tugaboos on my baby. Having worked at a consumer products testing laboratory before becoming a stay-at-home mom, I love a good product quality test, so this was right up my alley!
First, I compared Tugaboos with another store brand (#2) diaper, as well a national brand diaper. While store brand #2 was stiff and scratchy, Tugaboos and the national brand were both soft and flexible. If I were blind-folded, I don’t think I would have been able to tell the difference between Tugaboos and the national brand.
Next, I decided to test how much liquid the national brand and Tugaboos could each hold.
When I got to nearly 3 cups of water in each, I called the test off. According to the Mrs. Moneysaver Lab, both Tugaboos and the national brand can hold more liquid than any child should ever be left to sit in.
The final test was where I had my hesitations about Tugaboos. You see, as I’ve shared in the past, my 1-year old has some digestive issues. And he’s on a certain medicine to help those issues, a medicine that loosens things up an awful lot. (Sorry for the gruesome details.) As result of this medicine, we’ve had to be very particular about the diapers we use, or the results are catastrophic.
But I rose to the call of duty, and placed Jack in Tugaboos for the day and waited for the worst. And we had a few (very) dirty diapers during Test Day, but you know what? The Tugaboos held up just as well the national brand we’d been using.
After the Tugaboo diaper testing was all said and done, I was impressed. I’ve tried many, many store brand diapers on my kids in the past, but Tugaboos are now my favorite private label.
Note: I’m not a professional tester, so take my results for what they are- diaper experiences from a mom in the trenches, patiently waiting for potty training.
If you want to give Tugaboos a try, you can pick up the diapers, overnights, and trainers at Rite Aid stores. A jumbo pack of Tugaboos is priced around $9, but be sure to look for coupons!
Now, Rite Aid also wants to give one Mrs. Moneysaver reader the chance to try Tugaboos!
The prize: 1 winner will receive a coupon for a free pack of Tugaboos (up to $8.99) and a $40 Rite Aid gift card to spend to Tugaboos and whatever else you need.

I tried Safeway’s brand before and had issues which is why I have been hesitant to try rite aid’s brand – but definitely have been wanting to! Would love to win this – thanks!

I have not tried a store brand yet. I’m a chicken and I normally can get better deals with coupons on name brand. But I would love to try them out!

Thanks for the giveaway!

I tried Wal-Mart brand diapers before and had some issues with them and have been hesitant to try other store brand diapers, but I have been curious about Rite Aid brand and would like to give them a try!

I have tried alot of different brands, including private labels, of diapers. I have 3 children ages 4,3 and 1. My experiance is you usually get what you pay for. Although Target brand, Up and Up, is the only private label I would buy again. Walmart, CVS, and Dollar General brands being the worst because of leaks and stiffness. I am always open to trying new brands and would try the Tugaboos for sure.

I’ve tried a couple of private label diapers, and I have to say that the Tugaboos are the only ones that I’d use again. Lately though, I’ve been able to score several deals on the national brands, getting jumbo packs for $4 or less (usually at Rite Aid, funny how that works).

I don’t like some store/private brands (like on shampoos) but sometimes you can find a really good (like Tugaboos) and it’s a great way to save some cash!

Have used private labels many times. I always go for the bargains.
I have not tried Rite Aid diapers yet but I do love other products and their value as store brands. We did try Targets’s Up and Up diapers but they didn’t hold everything in the way they needed to with my son.

I usually switched to Parent’s Choice (Walmart) once my boys were older. They are super cheap. I have a 1 month old right now and we prefer pamper’s for this age.
private brands usually can be as absorbent, too….good to know this is another good one! :-)

Sometimes the private brands are really good. I really like the CVS brand of cookies- to me they taste better than a lot of the name brands. In addition, I like the Harris-Teeter brands- I think they’re the best store brand for grocery stores.

I have never tries Rite Aids diapers, but we do use Target brand everyday. I think they work just as good as name brand.
I’m not sure when I started using generics, but I try Rite Aid’s generic brand of products all the time. Sometimes the generic product actually works better than the name brand.

I have never tries Rite Aids, but Target and Costco. Costco and Target ones work as good as brand names in my experience.

I use whatever diapers I can get for cheapest. I have some that I “like” better than others, but for my daughter, they pretty much all perform the same on her!

We use Up+Up products religiously in this household; that is, when national brands aren’t as cost effective with coupon use. My son is actually wearing an Up+Up diaper right now!

I have tried the store brand pull ups at Giant and they work fairly well. I would def. be interested in trying this product as well!

I have tried Costco brand (wasn’t a fan) and other national brands. I’m chicken to try private labels, but am curious at the same time. It’s hard to break away from the comfort of what works well.

I have tried Walmart brand, but had a lot of problems with them leaking for my son.
You have to look around for diaper equivalents but, they can be found to be just as good as the name brands. Once I would find a store brand that worked as well, I would be a loyal customer!
I usually go for the store brands unless I’ve got coupons for the national brands. Some store brands are better than others. I’ve been buying store brands for as long as I can remember.
A friend recommended Target’s Up and Up diapers, but I have not tried them yet. I am looking forward to possible trying these.
I’m a new mom to twin boys and we go through a lot of diapers!!! I’ve currently only tried the Walmart brand of diapers and find them to be kind of stiff. However, we received diapers from Target, Dollar General and Walgreens to use once we hit size 1.

I first tried store brand diapers 13 years ago when my twins were just a few weeks old. Didn’t have a ton of money to spend on diapers x2! I probably tried just about every brand out there over the years, and have only had 1 private label that I disliked, and that store gave me my money back as promised. But every little heiney is different, and the name brand that my sister loved is one I hated for the twins, but now I use that brand for my youngest all the time.

I’ve tried the Kroger brand with no problems but would love to find a store brand closer to Pampers, my preferred diaper.

I’ve tried various store brands and they were mostly fine, but I never used them enough to develop a favorite. My daughter just potty trained this week (Yippee!!!) but I’d love to give this to my friend who is expecting her first baby.

For many things, I love store brands. I love Rite Aid brand’s zyrtec, so much more affordable and works just as well! I love Kroger’s milk (without hormones!) and their cheese and their ice cream, but not their yogurt. Some things aren’t so good, but mostly, I love store brands! Walmart’s brand of St. Ives face scrub and St. Ives lotion are perfect too!

I have tried store brands – especially when they are on clearance! I just bought CVS brand for just over $2!
I haven’t tried store brand diapers with my youngest daughter because I tried some with my eldest and didn’t really like them. Definitely will give Rite Aid a try.

I do love Costco’s Kirkland diapers and wipes. I’ll take a deal anytime, but if I’m low I get them at Costco.

I try generic stuff, on my girls I used the wal mart diapers. There is not a Rite Aid too close to use, so I dont shop there all the time.
i found the generic son with my now 12 year old son and my daughter who is now 4 was allergic to everything possible so we had to go back to Huggie’s brand then.

I haven’t given Rite Aid’s Tugaboos a try, yet – but, I don’t mind some private labeled diapers, like Wegmans!

I am a huge supporter of private label diapers – I have tried pretty much them all. At one time I had 3 kids under 3 and all in diapers (2 y.o. twins + an infant), so I was always looking for a bargain that was high quality.
I’ve tried several different one’s but I always go back to Pampers.
I have bought CVS diapers on clearance before.

I have tried the Wegmans brand of diapers and love them (even for newborns, which says a lot about a store brand diaper). Also the Target brand, when on sale, is just as good.

I’ve tried Target Brand. They worked just as well as name brands on my daughter, who was 3. But they leaked often on my infant son. I think they just didn’t fit his different body shape as well. The CVS brand work great on him!

When my daughter was 8 months old I decided to give the Costco brand a try. I had always preferred pampers. The Costco brand was just as good and maybe a little better even and is 21 cents each for a size 4. Now that I do coupons I can get the real brands for much less, but for when I am running low I love this. I would be willing to try the rite aid brand for sure.
I have never tried a store’s brand of diapers. I have always wanted to.
Thanks!

I try store brands on different things. I’ve tried store brands with aspirin and household items such as ziploc bags, trashbags, etc.

I love Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand, and at only $0.11 a diaper, the price can’t be beat even with coupons on other brands! All four of my kids have worn them so far as our preffered brand.
We used to be all for huggies for our daughter and I convinced myself to try Babies r us brand. We loved them! We also tried a sample pack of tugaboos (rite aid had a 2 pack with a coupon) and now we’ve switched to them!

We use Kirkland’s (Costco Brand). It’s the best!
I’ve sometimes found wet diapers have a stronger and more unpleasant aroma with store brand diapers (especially BJ’s) then the national brands. But I’m open to giving them another try!
I just tend to stick with what I know! I have considered Tugaboos, but the name has always kind of put me off. Like, what kind of Mickey Mouse brand is this? If I win this contest, obviously I will try. Otherwise, I will most likely stick with old reliable!
Thanks for the chance!

I first tried Walgreens diapers back when they had them for pennies and they worked just fine. When I can get a steal on any brand of diapers, I will but I’m not a huge fan of Target brand diapers so I tend to avoid those. Other than that, I’ve been lucky that neither of my children have particularly sensitive skin and can tolerate my diaper brand disloyalty :-)
when my son was little (he’s 17 now) we started buying private brand labels-I continued with my daughter, and there were many more brands available. Now with my 1 yr old grandson and new grandson due next month, that is all we use.

I have tried several diapers through the years. I tried Walmarts and had some luck but not enough to keep buying them. My twins sons seemed to wet through them at night. I have tried CVS and absolutely did not like them and now I am very partial to Walgreens brand. I would love to try the Tugaboos and see how they compare.
